Dulux Undercoat Brilliant White is a solvent-based undercoat for interior and exterior wood and metal. It gives a smooth, even base for your gloss topcoat to bond to. If you’re using a traditional oil-based gloss, this is the undercoat to go with it.

It covers well and hides surface marks, giving you a clean white base even over darker or patchy surfaces. It does take longer to dry than water-based options — plan for an overnight wait before your topcoat. However, the trade-off is a tough, well-bonded base that works hand in hand with solvent-based finishes.

How to Apply Dulux Undercoat Brilliant White

1. Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free from dust, grease and loose material
2. Sand any rough areas smooth and wipe off the dust
3. On bare wood, apply a suitable wood primer first. On bare metal, apply a metal primer
4. Stir well before use
5. Apply with a brush in smooth, even strokes
6. Allow 16 hours between coats — this is a solvent-based product, so leave it overnight
7. Apply a second coat if needed for a fully even base
8. Once dry, apply your chosen gloss topcoat

Coverage

Dulux Undercoat Brilliant White covers up to 17m² per litre. A 750ml tin does around 13m² with two coats. A 2.5L tin does around 42m². Results vary with surface texture.
