Rustins Yacht Varnish Gloss is a tung oil based varnish built to protect exterior wood in the most demanding conditions. It resists rain, sunlight, frost, salt and chemically polluted atmospheres — and its flexible film stays bonded to the wood through seasonal movement, giving enhanced protection against cracking, checking and loss of adhesion.

Originally developed for marine woodwork, it’s just as useful on exterior doors, window frames and cladding. Three coats give a tough, durable high-gloss finish that holds up to the elements for years.

How to Apply Rustins Yacht Varnish Gloss

1. Make sure the surface is dry, clean, smooth and free from dust, oil, grease and contaminants
2. Fill any cracks with Rustins Wood Filler. On open-grained wood, apply Rustins Grain Filler first
3. Thin the first coat 25% with White Spirit — this helps it penetrate bare wood. Apply with a good quality brush
4. Leave 12 hours before recoating
5. Apply a second coat, then a third — three coats are recommended for full protection
6. Porous end-grain or badly weathered wood may need additional coats
7. Only apply at 15–25°C. Do not use below 10°C or in conditions of high humidity

Coverage

Rustins Yacht Varnish Gloss covers 13m² per litre per coat. A 250ml tin covers approximately 3.25m² per coat. A 1L tin covers approximately 13m² per coat — enough for a full exterior door and frame. Three coats are recommended for full protection.

Safety & Restrictions

• Solvent-based — use in a well-ventilated area
• Do not use below 10°C or in conditions of high humidity
• Flammable — keep away from heat, sparks and open flames
• Clean brushes with White Spirit whilst wet, or Rustins Brush Cleaner; use Rustins Brush Restorer once dry
• Keep away from children
• Store in a cool, dry place
