How to Use the ProDec Taping Knife

1. Check the joint is clean and the boards are fixed tight.
2. Apply a bed of jointing compound along the seam.
3. Lay your tape into the wet compound.
4. Draw the blade along at a shallow angle to bed the tape and squeeze out the excess.
5. Apply a thin coat over the top, feathering the edges outward.
6. Let it dry, then apply further coats using a wider blade each time.
7. Wipe the blade clean between coats, as dried compound on the edge causes ridges.

Choosing the Right Width

Most people work up through the sizes rather than picking one. Start with the 8″ to bed the tape and for spot repairs. Move to the 10″ for the second coat, then the 12″ for the final skim, feathering wider each time.
